Colorado Springs Airport Holiday Parking Promotion Proves Customer Loyalty, Competitive Market

Colorado Springs Airport (COS) reports an increase in airline load factors during the holiday travel season of 2014. This resulted from a holiday parking promotion that included free short-term and long-term parking for the months of November and December.

This customer appreciation strategy proved to be worthwhile, increasing airline load factors during the holiday season. Allegiant, Alaska, American, and Delta reported increased load factors anywhere between 7 to 18 percent in November and 4 to 10 percent in December. These increases came at a time when many airlines at COS also reduced seat capacity for the slower winter season. The results send a message to the airlines that COS is a competitive market with loyal customers.

In addition to this promotion, the airport has also invested in various marketing strategies; a piece that has been missing from COS in the past. In 2013, COS introduced the ThanksAgain© customer loyalty program to reward passengers with flight miles for every dollar spent on food, beverages and gifts in the airport. COS also unveiled the Premier Membership program in October, another customer loyalty feature to provide incentive to frequent flyers.

With support from the airlines, COS hopes to repeat this success by rewarding customers with similar promotions in the future.
